BC has accpeted the San Francisco bowl bid against Colorado St. This would be good news, if athletics wasn't only paying for 37 BCMB members to go with the team. Seniors and EBoard automatically got in, the rest were by lottery, done by Kristen and Dave. Out of 19 student leaders, only 6 are going. The rest are random members.
Sure, EBoard is protesting it, and there are whispers of writing everyone under the sun. Things may change, but I had to voice my opinion on the current situation:
Hi Dave,
I just got back from concert band rehearsal to the San Francisco trip lottery results. I can understand the need to be fair, and the lottery is a good idea. Conceptually. However, I think the system forgoes any considerations for the many hours section leaders have dedicated, and will dedicate, to the program, as well as an accurate sample of the overall presentation and tone quality of our marching band. In other words, I feel this process undermines the foundation of loyalty and commitment to excellence we have internalized, projected and enforced throughout the season.
That being said, I want to make it clear that my dedication to this program has not waivered in the least. I remain grateful for the many lessons, opportunities, and friendships it has provided me.
This is one of those lessons.
