And suddenly it's holiday time. I am leaving for LaGuardia in about twenty minutes, but before I go, a quick recap:
1. New job is going well. After three different holiday parties (corporate, team, team) in a 7 day period I feel the need to just sit in one place and rest up. It is hard for me to describe the difference between where I am now and where I used to work. The people are so different. I think maybe the age difference and breadth of experience is what shocks me most. Day to day I do so much more than I used to, yet not really at the same time. I run so many more portfolio simulations and portfolio valuations, but I deal with equity managers in a similar volume. The highlights so far have been finding a '96 BC alum to swap mod stories with, and starting inside jokes with guys who have ten years on me. Maybe it's a sign of maturity that I'm not intimidated by the age difference? I feel at home, which is surprising. I had expected to feel out of place for a lot longer than my first five minutes in the office. (Oh, and I have an ipod shuffle. How embarrassing is that? It was a gift from the head of our department, his kids passed out little tiny boxes as he called out our names dressed in a santa suit. The back is engraved with the name of our group. Am I dreaming? This thing has been on the market for all of a month. So now I'm trying to figure out how to convert all of music in itunes. But I haven't been able to bring myself to buy anything through that platform just yet. One baby step towards mass commercialism at a time, please.)
2. My left foot doesn't work. I've been to five doctors in the past week. One chiropractor, one physical therapist, one podiatrist, and two neurologists. The consensus is I have a pinched nerve behind my knee, resulting in what's called a "foot drop." I can't flex my dorsal muscles, or pick up my toes. I've only wiped out in public once, I've learned to hike my knee up to compensate. But man is it annoying. I was ordered not to work out for at least three more weeks (!) because they think running caused it in the first place. I'm really tired of the top of my foot being numb. Seriously.
3. Christie's wedding is this coming Thursday. Alex is coming into Altalnta this Wednesday to go with me. My red dress is altered and no longer huge (see new photo on the left). Let's hope I can walk normally down the aisle and not be the laughing stock of her bridal party.
4. Bartending. Anyone ever been a bartender? I'm looking into it. I think it could be fun. And make some extra cash on the weekends for my student loans.
Time to head out. Later y'all.
