For a second year, we will be staying home on New Years Eve. I did fix us a nice steak dinner after work though. With so much running around this past weekend, it's nice to sit in one place.
I was overcome with emotion as I was making dinner. In our study Ry was hanging out with his best friend from Cambridge virtually, two men on separate continents talking and laughing, having a great time. In the main room I was texting with Shell, seeing how she's doing after coming down with bronchitis. Even though we only see each other a couple of times a year, I feel so lucky to have her in my life. So happy that Ry has Sweeney in his life, and that we can meet up with friends from what feels like a different era over one weekend and pick up right where we left off. It doesn't feel like much time has passed with the UVA crowd, or even the BC crowd. But so many of us are married now, some even with kids, different careers, changing ambitions... Was it really 6 years ago when we all were getting to know each other for the UVA clan? 12 for the BC crew?
2012 was no cake walk, but no life worth living ever is. Thankfully we had strong friendships to help us take the good with the bad. Come on 2013!

Made a quick trip this past weekend, 20 hours total driving time between Friday night and Sunday, to the VA Beach/ Norfolk area, for the wedding of a UVA friend. It was a quick trip since I had to be back at work today, but I'm glad we went. We hadn't had that many of the UVA crowd together since Ry and I got married, plus it was nice to show Ry the pancake house my family used to love some 17 years ago in that area.
Here are some pictures from that trip, including Chris and his bride Maura.

Happy to share pictures of a dear high school friend's newborn, Christie's daughter, she is living with her Air Force husband in Germany. Amelia Grace was born on Christie's 6th wedding anniversary after 32 hours of labor!!

My cousin sent me pictures of her two daughters in a church play last weekend. Her oldest was Mary, her other daughter was an angel. She looks amazing for giving birth to her son only two months ago!

Ryan and I headed down to Staunton, VA in the Shenandoah Valley last weekend to look at a mansion on 19 acres of land Ry has had his eye on for some time. It is about a 2 hour drive from his parents place in Manassas. While Ry and I do have plans to move to VA and buy a house eventually, this is a palatial estate built in 1929 with a $1.2MM asking price and needing about $500K worth of work done. It's a bit out of our price range at the moment, and a little too early in our timeline. It was pretty though, a relic of another time.
After our tour of the property we stopped by a winery on the way home. There were also good times had in a grocery store and a father/son tennis match that weekend.
