The retiring of BlogSpot has passed, almost a week has gone by, and my site is still here. Phew. I couldn't alter any part of my old template hosted on my FTP, hence the new look. And new URL (http://lasaliente.blogspot.com). And no links. In a couple of days I'll be back up to speed.

Bookmark me, folks, I've moved.

Now then, to catch you up to speed:

Two weekends ago I flew down to Atlanta to see the twins' marching show - they are seniors in high school this year. I flew in Thursday night, delayed by two hours, and got into Hartsfield Airport around 1AM. Friday was spent running errands with el papa, catching up with Christie, and preparing for the night's football game. I was on load crew with the dads, making sure all pit and low brass equipment was snuggly on the rented truck. Just like riding a bike ya'll. As it turned out, the weather was freezing that night. It didn't matter much because after half time we were all pakced up to start the drive down to Crestview, Florida for the band's final compeition of the season. We all stopped to spend the night in Alabama about half way though the drive, and we were up the next morning early to get there in time for field warm-ups. Come to find out there were no warm-ups due to limited space and bus crashes other high schools were dealing with - go figure. With my chaperone status cemented by a magnetic pin, we ran water all day (we went from 20 degrees the night before to 72 and sunny the next day) until it was performance time. They kids looked and sounded great, their show was called "Caliente," my favorite song being the Marc Anthony piece from Mask of Zorro. They looked nothing like the start-up band I remembered from the year before (the school is only in it's third year of existence). The colorguard even danced with the high brass at one point in the show, a nice touch which couldn't hurt their General Effect score. Once the kids were off the field, we packed the truck back up and el papa and I got back on the road. I drove us straight through the seven hour trek to Atlanta. El papa had to be back in time to work the Dannon 10K race in Alpahretta. We got in around 2AM and were up at 4AM to set up the water stands for the start of the race. Luckily it was pouring rain and we were only out at our stand for a half hour before the organizers shut us all down due to low turnout. After a quick nap I was back at the airport to head back to New York. That's what I get for wanting to spend time with my familia.

I drove up to Boston last weekend with Shell to stay with Flora and meet up with Kelly in Brookline. It was a reunion of sorts, I hadn't been back to Boston since October 2005, and I went to my first BC football game in Alumni Stadium since Thanksgiving of 2004. I can honestly say I am done with college nostalgia. I got to see old friends, see how things have changed and how some things haven't. We got to meet Flora's new roommates and to see our friend (O)Ben from our New Years Eve spent in New York City last year. It was a rainy time, but I enjoyed the drive up. The drive back was not so great, I was battling winds of over 50mph the entire way south. But we magically made it to Penn Station in time for Shell to catch her bus back to DC. Thank goodness.

This past week was my last at Offit Hall. Now that I am no longer employed by the firm, I am free to say I was tired of the bullshit: the racism, not being promoted because my surname and religious beliefs didn't uphold the Jewish image of a family office. There were no hard feelings as I walked out of the door at 5PM last Friday. Leaving on-time for the first time in a long time, knowing that I couldn't have given them any more than I had. I left it all on the table. It wasn't enough, so on 13 November I start as a Business Analyst in Hedge Fund Strategies of the Global Investment Group of AIG.

I have this week to tinker around the apartment and take care of some things. El Sphinx is happy that I am home for once. Little does he know I leave for Chicago on Wednesday to see Alex.

I am listening to new music, mostly the new Deftones and Ani Difranco with some Justin Timberlake and Amerie thrown in. And really, New York City is a great place for recovering goths. As they saying goes, black is always the new black. Indeed. Indeed, my friends.
