Tonight is my last night in #1218 in The Octagon yall.
How do I feel?
Happy mostly, that the day when I can leave is so close. The apartment has been beautiful, my life has been mostly convenient here. But the island is changing. Businesses are closing as the rents go up. No new merchants want to pay the back rent and sky high prices to occupy the space. More and more people are flocking to live here, and the public transportation here is overwhelmed. No, it is time to leave.
My mexi orange paint is gone, everything is packed up. Tomorrow Sphinx and I journey 13 miles north. As Kelly said when we spoke earlier this week, "Like JLo, you'll be on the 6." Yep.
It is time.
I will miss the wall AC unit, having a laundry facility in the basement of my building and the views, yes. But I have other goals to fulfill, I can't continue to justify spending so much for so little space. And it is comforting to know the Manhattan skyline has withstood the test of time so far, it will still be here if/when I ever decide to live this kind of lifestyle again.
And my brother is here ps, taking a vacation from his two jobs in Alpharetta, meeting up with Wake friends and helping me move. Last night we ate a late dinner in midtown after his delayed flight finally de-planed. He looked around in awe and said, "I feel like I'm on a movie set for a film shoot of my life right now. Is this really real? Do you really live here? You're used to this, this city and this, this energy?"
Yessir, this is my life. And what a great one it is.
Take care, everyone. Catch you on the flip side.
