It's been a great couple of weeks yall. I'm all settled in to my new place in Pelham Bay. It's cozy, and feels like home should. Work is going well, yet the side project still causes me trouble. I was planning on going to Boston this weekend, but that fell through. One of the clarinets is playing at Steve Ronan's wedding, which is very weird to me. But I'm starting to lose my paranoid sensitivity to weddings. There for awhile, I couldn't help but hear some little alarm go off in the back of my mind anytime I heard of someone engaged. As Kelly said, girls used to joke about their marital status on facebook, but now, it's actually true. Next weekend I am heading down to DC to see MyShell and a very dear, old friend.

An aside: Happy 24th Shell, albeit a few hours early!

My sisters turn 18 Saturday. My goodness, how time flies. I am going to Lubbock in August to help move them into the Texas Tech dorms. I will most likely cry. A lot.

Yes, I've recently been reconnected with an old friend from 13 years ago. We got to spend some time together this past week(end) in nyc, and it's amazing to me just how little has changed between us. We've gone through our own, individual, separate experiences for over a decade, yet we've resumed the same familiarity I remember so well. My life growing up in Woodbridge, VA seems like a lifetime ago, but it all comes flooding back anytime we're together. It's tangential, disorienting, and so much fun. :) And no matter what he says, I did in fact beat him in sparring many a time at the old dojo.

Life in midtown Manhattan was back to normal today. The steam pipe blast last night at Grand Central caused a hellacious commute to work on the 6 train this morning. Two women almost got into a fistfight after one accidentally tripped into the other. Nerves were definitely on edge. My building went through it's fire, evacuation and hazardous toxins drill again today. On our first days at work, we are all assigned gas masks just in case of another 9/11. It's routine now, but if I stop and think about it for too long, I start to wonder. How many people do you know are required to keep gas masks in their desks? The fire rescue guys assured us that the asbestos was under control. The entire area had been sprayed and wiped down. What does that mean exactly? You got me.

Just another day in the life. And so it goes.
