Last Tuesday night Manhattan Wind Ensemble held its Fall Concert at the 14th Street Y. This is a season of firsts for the group: the first time we are completely on our own (and having to finance a $4k/concert budget over the course of a 3 concert season) without any backing from a local school, the first time we have had a formal Board in place (I am now Treasurer only, with specks of load crew responsibility lingering), and the first time we have rehearsed at Teatro La Tea on the Lower East Side and performed at the 14th Street Y.

The concert went really well. A few of us had baked goodies to sell in the hall beforehand and during intermission, and we completely sold out the hall!! So much so we had to bring in extra chairs for folks to sit during the show! And of course, we performed well too, which just makes it even sweeter! All in all we made about $800 that night alone, which was $300 more than we had expected. Not too shabby for a concert right before a major holiday.

And true to form, I took a few pictures before the show (mostly of the Board folk, our core group who make everything happen):

We start rehearsals for our Winter Concert in early March (and a performance in the Columbia Festival of Winds also in March) tomorrow night and I can't wait. It's so satisfying to pull something that seemed so impossible a few months ago off without a hitch!
